Europe
Revokes Symbicort COPD Patent |
May
6, 2008--Following an appeal from
generic drugmakers Norton Healthcare and Generics UK, the European Patent
Office revoked one of two combination patents covering the use of
AstraZeneca’s Symbicort drug to treat chronic obstructive pulmonary
disease. The patent’s original expiration date was 2018.
Europe
accounted for more than $1 billion of Symbicort’s worldwide sales in
