Survey: Drugmakers May Scale Back R&D Investment in Britain

March 19, 2008--The results are in from a survey conducted on behalf of the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry and the Confederation of British Industry: Three-quarters of more than 100 drugmakers with British operations said they had little confidence in the current UK market environment, and 83% expect the position to deteriorate in the coming 12 months. More than one-third of companies expect to cut investment in R&D in Britain; a similar number of companies will reduce investment in buildings and other tangible assets over the coming year. The loss of confidence in the UK market is being linked to the government’s plans to renegotiate the Pharmaceutical Price Regulation Scheme. Reuters
