AstraZeneca Spins Off Gastrointestinal Unit

February 14, 2008--AstraZeneca is spinning off its Swedish gastrointestinal research operations into a new company called Albireo. Backed by a consortium of investment firms, Albireo will focus on developing new treatments from a number of early-stage AstraZeneca research programs on gastrointestinal diseases. AstraZeneca will retain a significant minority equity stake in Albireo, which raised $27 million in its first financing round. MarketWatch
