Studies: Statins Could Benefit Diabetics; May Cut Cancer Risk

January 11, 2008--According to a study published in The Lancet, people with diabetes could benefit from taking cholesterol-lowering statin drugs. The researchers found that after an average period of 4.3 years, for every step reduction in their levels of bad cholesterol, deaths among people with diabetes fell by 9% and the number of major cardiovascular events dropped by one-fifth. The Guardian

January 8, 2008--A study published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute concluded that patients using statins may be at lower risk for developing cancer. The article abstract can be found on the Oxford University Press Web site.
