Avandia Not to Blame for Trial Deaths

February 6, 2008--GlaxoSmithKline’s beleaguered diabetes drug Avandia (rosiglitazone) did not cause higher rates of death in a study testing ways to prevent heart problems in high-risk diabetics, said researchers. Patients given aggressive treatment to lower their blood sugar levels died at a higher rate than patients given standard therapy. But the researchers said that no drug or combination of drugs appeared to be responsible. Reuters
