Avandia
Not to Blame for Trial Deaths |
February
6, 2008--GlaxoSmithKline’s beleaguered diabetes drug Avandia (rosiglitazone)
did not cause higher rates of death in a study testing ways to prevent
heart problems in high-risk diabetics, said researchers. Patients given
aggressive treatment to lower their blood sugar levels died at a higher
rate than patients given standard therapy. But the researchers said that
no drug or combination of drugs appeared to be responsible. Reuters
