September 5, 2006--Under
the terms of the agreement, Infinity will maintain responsibility
for discovery, preclinical development, and initial
proof-of-concept trials in humans. The two companies will split
the cost of clinical development and initial regulatory approval;
MedImmune will then take the lead on worldwide regulatory approval
and marketing. The companies also plan to share any profits
equally.
The Hsp90 and Hedgehog programs are
Infinity's most advanced drug development programs, with the lead
Hsp90 compound, IPI-504, already in two Phase I clinical trials.
"We have very compelling preclinical data for both of those
programs against a very broad range of tumor types," said
Adelene Perkins, Infinity's executive vice president and chief
business officer. "We are now making the decision of the
number of different clinical trials that we need to go into and,
strategically, a partner can really help us ensure that we are
fully able to evaluate these programs."
