Merck & Co. to Cut 1,200 US Sales Jobs    

May 5, 2008--Merck & Co. said it will eliminate 1,200 US sales jobs. According to regulatory filings through March 31, Merck has cut 8,100 jobs globally since beginning a restructure in late 2005. Last week the FDA issued a non-approvable letter for Merck’s cholesterol pill Cordaptive, compounding the drugmaker’s troubles: Merck is bracing to lose as much as 61% of sales for its cholesterol pills Zetia and Vytorin this year after a study (released in January) suggested they may work no better than an older, cheaper treatment.
