Merck
& Co. to Cut 1,200 US Sales Jobs
May
5, 2008--Merck
& Co. said it will eliminate 1,200
US
sales jobs. According to regulatory filings through March 31,
Merck has cut 8,100 jobs globally since beginning a restructure in
late 2005. Last week the FDA issued a non-approvable letter for
Merck’s cholesterol pill Cordaptive, compounding the
drugmaker’s troubles: Merck is bracing to lose as much as 61% of
sales for its cholesterol pills Zetia and Vytorin this year after
a study (released in January) suggested they may work no better
than an older, cheaper treatment. Bloomberg.com
